On Wednesday, June 18, the Writing Center hosted separate events at the Southlake and Lakeshore campuses to provide fun opportunities for Adult Ed. students to stretch their English-speaking skills.
At the Southlake Campus, students competed in a version of Family Feud where they worked in teams to brainstorm responses to questions such as, “Name something people might do only once a week.” For each round, teams earned points for answers that matched survey results.
At Lakeshore, there were two screenings of the short film, (SHn(y)o͞of) by Sam Davis, shown at the Tutoring Center. Students gathered for a time of snacks and discussion about mutual understanding, the joys of shared language, and their experiences thus far as English-learners.
These events provided students at both campuses with a preview of the Conversation Circles that are held on a weekly basis during fall and spring semesters.
