Celebrating National Day on Writing

Come celebrate all things writing with the CLC Writing Center!

The National Day on Writing was created by the National Council of Teachers of English “to draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing Americans engage in and to help make writers from all walks of life aware of their craft” (NCTE Website).

The official day for the National Day on Writing is always October 20th and on Monday, October 20, 2025, we will be celebrating in many ways and in several locations:

Student Street – Grayslake Campus: 10 am – 2 pm

If you’re on the Grayslake Campus on 10/20, come visit our promotional table on Student Street between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and learn about upcoming writing-related classes and events, writing-related organizations you can get involved in, as well as how the CLC Writing Center can support you as a writer. There will be be treats, a giant word-search, as well as the chance to take the #WhyIWrite challenge.

Tutoring Centers – Southlake Campus & Lakeshore Campus

Join Alanna, Lakeshore lead tutor, and Lee-Ann, Southlake lead tutor, in celebrating National Day on Writing! In both centers on 10/20, there will be magnetic tiles for students to write poetry, make statements, and more. Snacks will also be provided.

Why I Write Social Media Blitz (#WhyIWrite)

To encourage students, faculty, and staff to reflect on how and why writing is important to them, we are sponsoring a social media challenge on Instagram and Facebook.

Start by filling out a #WhyIWrite poster (see below for some downloadable options or make your own).  Then, do one of the following.

  • Share a photo of yourself with the #WhyIWrite poster on Facebook or Instagram and tag the CLC Writing Center.
  • Share a video of yourself with the #WhyIWrite poster, talking about your response, on either Facebook or Instagram and tag the CLC Writing Center.
  • Ask a writing center staff person to take a picture of you with your #WhyIWrite poster and we’ll post it on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Post any time on Monday, October 20, 2025, and you will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.  We will do a drawing for three different groups: students, faculty and staff, and CLC writing tutors.
