Thanks for a Great Night Against Procrastination!

The CLC Writing Center wrapped up another successful round of Night Against Procrastination events on 11/19/24 and 11/20/24 🥳🎊

Collectively among the three campuses, we had 36 participants: 32 students, 2 community members, 1 staff, and 1 faculty member. Of the 32 student participants, 16 were new students who hadn’t been to the tutoring/writing center during this semester 🎉🙌🏻 Hopefully we see them around the center before the end of Fall 2024. 🤭

Night (and Afternoon) Against Procrastination

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, the CLC Writing Center hosted a successful write-in event to help students (and CLC faculty and staff) fight procrastination.

Three separate write-in events were scheduled–one on each campus and writers had the opportunity to work for anywhere from two to four hours. Snacks were provided and door prizes were awarded.

Night Against Procrastination – Virtual Write-In

Got writing deadlines looming? Got essays needing revision? Are you trying to finish your final research project in any CLC class?

Getting writing done can be hard in the best of times.  The Covid-19 pandemic has made it even more challenging to sit down in front of the computer and focus.  We know.

The CLC Writing Center team is here to help with a two-day Virtual Write-In.

What’s a Write-In?

A Write-In is a community event where writers join together to get writing done—whether it’s for an hour or two hours or ten—and help to keep each other accountable.  The idea is that when you are working with a group of fellow writers, it is easier to fight procrastination and keep your butt in your chair and your hands on the keyboard.

We are joining writing centers from across the United States and abroad to offer space and support to encourage writers to tackle (and not procrastinate on) end-of-semester writing projects.   Our virtual CLC Write-In is open to any CLC students, staff, or faculty who want to make progress on a writing task and is being offered over two days.

Night Against Procrastination – Spring 2018

On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 5:30-10:00 pm, the CLC Writing Center sponsored a Night against Procrastination—an evening devoted to offering space and support for students working on final writing projects.  This is the 5thsemester that the CLC Writing Center has sponsored this event, and we have already set the dates for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019.

For the first time, our Night Against Procrastination had a theme—the Netflix show, Stranger Things.  Two of our peer tutors, Jess Cole and Anna Brunette, came up with the idea on the way home from the Midwest Writing Centers Association (MWCA) conference in Omaha in early March.  Jess, who has helped coordinate our write-ins since Spring 2017, attended a conference session focused specifically on putting on this type of event and came out with a notebook full of ideas including the need for a theme.  This led to a 2-hour brainstorming session in the car.
